How to Connect Your Google Health Data

Access unified health and activity data from Google Health via Thryve's API. Deliver continuous insights for wellness, chronic condition management, remote monitoring, and digital health applications.

Seamless Integration of Google Health with Thryve

Google Health is now the central hub for health data on Android, consolidating data from Fitbit, Samsung Health, wearables, and medical devices into a single platform. With Google actively migrating Fitbit users to Google Health through mandatory app updates, it has become one of the most urgent integrations for any digital health platform operating on Android.

Thryve simplifies the integration of Google Health data through a secure OAuth2-based consent flow, normalizing activity, heart rate, sleep, nutrition, and more into your health platform compliant and ready for use from day one.

Fitbit Users Are Migrating Now, and Your Platform Needs to Be Ready

Google is actively pushing Fitbit users to migrate to Google Health through mandatory in-app updates. When a user accepts the update, their Fitbit app converts to Google Health, their data moves with it, and their existing Fitbit connection to your platform stops working immediately.

For platforms currently relying on the Fitbit integration, this means users are being silently locked out as the migration accelerates. The only way to restore their connection is to add Google Health as a data source and prompt your users to re-authenticate.

Thryve's Google Health integration is available now on a fast-track request basis, ahead of the full public release. Reach out to get access and ensure your users stay connected without disruption.

Fitness & Wellness Apps: Access step counts, workouts, heart rate, sleep stages, and calories from the full Android ecosystem through a single, standardized API endpoint.

Chronic Condition Platforms: Combine Google Health activity data with glucose, blood pressure, or clinical device readings for multidimensional health insights.

Remote Monitoring & RPM Programs: Leverage continuous real-world data from patients' Android devices and connected wearables to support proactive, data-driven care.

Health Insurers & Corporate Wellness: Integrate Google Health as part of a broader incentive or engagement program, reaching the large and growing share of users migrating from Fitbit.

Secure, Compliant, and Consent-Based Architecture

All Google Health integrations through Thryve operate under strict GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001 compliance. We use encrypted, de-identified data and OAuth2 user authorization to ensure privacy and transparency across every connection.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:
Connection Essentials

  • What is the difference between Google Fit and Google Health Connect?
    • Google Fit was Google's original fitness platform, deprecated in 2024. Google Health Connect is its replacement — a broader data hub on Android that aggregates data from Fitbit, Samsung Health, wearables, and medical devices.
  • My users connected via Fitbit. Do I need to do anything?
    • Yes. Google is actively prompting Fitbit users to migrate to Google Health Connect through mandatory in-app updates. Once a user migrates, their existing Fitbit connection stops working. You need to add Google Health Connect as a data source and prompt affected users to reconnect.
  • Is Google Health Connect available through Thryve now?
    • The Google Health Connect authentication flow is available on a fast-track request basis ahead of the full integration release. Reach out to our team to get early access.
  • Does the user need to reconnect after migrating from Fitbit?
    • Yes. A new OAuth2 authentication with Google Health Connect is required. There is no automatic handover from the Fitbit connection.
